Now for the real thing

So. Classes are over. All my assignments are in. Now it's time for the real thing - the teaching. To be honest, I've been dying to simply get out and teach all semester.

For the past ten weeks I've been inundated with loads of theory about 'pedagogy' (teaching), 'constructivism' (the theory that we learn from our experiences), and learning 'experiences' (lessons or activities), and then regurgitating the same stuff in the form of essays and research papers. After more than two months of this, this verbiage is beginning to creep into my everyday language. Don't get me wrong though; I've picked up some great practical ideas and strategies that I can definitely use in the classroom.

For my four-week practicum, I've been placed at a school in Mt. Gravatt, in the southern suburbs of Brisbane. I've already had a couple of 'observation' days and feeling confident that I can bring something fresh and interesting to the lessons. I'm sure I'm going to be a little nervous for the first lessons and activities I teach, but the kids seem mostly well behaved and staff supportive.

I'll endevour to record my experiences over the next four weeks of my practicum and any thoughts that arise from it.
